IAG, the largest household insurer in Christchurch, insists it has nothing to gain from delaying the claims process.
Many are frustrated at the speed of the recovery with only a quarter of insurance claims having been paid in the 1½ years since last year's major earthquake.
IAG says the cost of materials and labour will increase over the next five years as reconstruction of the city gets into full swing, so any delay in settling claims would only end up costing IAG more.
