Royal Commission seeks submissions

The Canterbury Earthquakes Royal Commission is seeking submissions to a hearing scheduled for September into possible changes needed in the training of engineers and the way buildings are managed.

The Royal Commission is looking into buildings that collapsed in the central city in the February earthquake, which killed 185 people.

It will resume its work this Monday when it looks at the collapse of the CTV building.

The issues the September hearing will deal with include the coloured placards used to inform people whether a building was safe to enter following the September earthquake, and getting the correct balance between safety and the cost of providing it.
