Minister appeals ruling over housing developments

Updated at 6:41 pm on 20 August 2012

Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee is appealing against a court ruling that he acted outside the law in fast-tracking new housing developments in Christchurch.

The Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority has confirmed that the appeal was lodged last Thursday.

The High Court ruling on 24 July is the first legal challenge to the special powers Mr Brownlee was given as part of earthquake recovery legislation.

A spokesperson for the minister says the decision is lawfully and factually wrong.

The Canterbury Regional Council is also appealing against the ruling.
