Unhappy Sumner residents complain to CERA

Up to 100 Sumner residents met the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority on Tuesday night to vent their frustrations about the latest zoning announcement for the Port Hills.

The authority announced last week that 121 properties will be zoned red and five green, while 37 remain white. Many residents concerned at being zoned red want to stay green, while some zoned green want to be red.

But the authority's chief executive, Roger Sutton, says there still isn't a case for individual reviews. He says while he understands the frustration, it is too difficult to please everyone.

Mr Sutton says the authority has made its decisions based on what it calls the life risk posed to people by falling rocks.

Residents will be able to apply for a review of the zone they have been given.
