The World Green Building Council says a star rating system will be used to ensure many of the new residential and commercial buildings going up in Christchurch are constructed with the environment in mind.
The council says says it will rate everything, from access to public transport to how much natural light a building lets in.
Chief executive Jane Henley, who is in Christchurch this weekend, says green buildings make good business sense as well as being good for the environment.
