Catholic church proposes merging two schools

Updated at 6:10 am on 19 September 2012

The Catholic church has proposed merging two of the city's Catholic integrated schools.

The church on Tuesday announced its plans for reorganising its 22 schools in the wake of the earthquakes.

It has suggested merging St Paul's School in Dallington with Our Lady of Fatima School in Mairehau.

St Paul's has been on a temporary site following serious damage in the September 2010 earthquake.

The other Catholic school not on its original site is Marian College.

The church says that school will continue, but it is waiting for a geotechnical assessment of its original land in Shirley.

The announcement comes less than a week after the Government proposed major changes for Christchurch state schools.
