Christchurch campaign seeks to reassures Australians

A new campaign has been launched to try to lure Australians back to Christchurch, by showing them it is a safe and exciting place to visit.

Since the series of earthquakes which struck the city, the number of Australians visiting Canterbury has slumped by 43%.

The campaign, "Christchurch Reimagined", is intended to show Australians how much the South Island city has moved on since the quakes, which began in September 2010.

Christchurch and Canterbury Tourism chief executive Tim Hunter says the city can't afford to let visitor numbers continue to drop so it has to change the way it is perceived across the Tasman.

The campaign launches on Wednesday and uses real-time digital images of Christchurch - some posted on electronic billboards in Melbourne and Sydney.
