University establishing quake archive

The University of Canterbury is setting up a special archive to document the region's earthquakes.

The QuakeStudies archive will gather reports, documents, stories, photos and film of the quakes.

The national museum of New Zealand Te Papa, the National Library, the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority, the Canterbury Museum and the New Zealand Film Archive are among organisations contributing to the archive.

Project leader Paul Millar says the archive will document the rebuild and recovery of Christchurch as well as the quakes themselves.

He says the archive will continue to add material over the coming decades and will also be available to promote and underpin research into earthquake-related risk, resilience and renewal.
