Canterbury tertiary institutions secure more funding

Three Canterbury tertiary education institutions have secured another year of guaranteed funding from the Government.

They are: the University of Canterbury, Lincoln University and the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology.

Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment Minister Steven Joyce says the funding will allow the institutions to focus on long-term recovery strategies.

Mr Joyce says overall, student enrolments in the region for 2013 are forecast to pick up slightly.

However, he says the Government wants tertiary institutions to make the most of the opportunities so they can contribute to the Canterbury regional recovery following the recent damaging earthquakes.
