Insurer sets new deadline to complete assessments

A community advocacy group helping Cantabrians get answers to their earthquake insurance questions says if insurer IAG meets its new deadlines on assessment of damaged properties in Christchurch it will have caught up with standards set by competitors.

IAG, the largest company offering residential insurance in Christchurch, was judged by residents in a survey by Insurance Watch this year to be the worst-performing insurer in the city in completing assessments for customers in the areas known as TC3, where there is an increased likelihood of land damage in future quakes.

The company promised customers on Monday night to complete all its assessments of their properties by Christmas and get all repairs or rebuilds completed within three years.

Insurance Watch says if that happens, IAG will have caught up with most of its competitors.
