Christchurch landmark pool reopens

A well-known Christchurch landmark reopened on Saturday for the first time since the February 2011 earthquake.

Christchurch mayor Bob Parker officially opened the New Brighton Whale Paddling Pool, which he says has been a familiar sight on the foreshore for as long as many residents can remember.

Mr Parker says its re-opening is a small but significant step in the city's recovery.

Three other newly repaired paddling pools - in the Botanic Gardens, Abberley Park in St Albans and Woodham Park in Linwood - will also open at the weekend.
