New 15-minute bus service for city

The Canterbury Regional Council says the region's earthquakes have forced it to rethink bus routes in Christchurch.

A new high-frequency bus service starting on 3 December is modelled on the successful 10-year-old Orbiter route.

The service, called Blue Line, will run between the suburb of Belfast and Princess Margaret hospital every 15 minutes.

A council commissioner, Rex Williams, says the service is in response to the large number of people who have moved from the central city to the suburbs.

It follows the release of the draft Christchurch transport plan last week.
