Labour MP Lianne Dalziel is urging the Government to help with repair costs for Canterbury's quake-damaged power supply network.
Orion is proposing to lift its lines charges by about 5% to meet a repair bill of about $155 million.
If the proposal goes ahead, a customer with a $180 monthly power bill will pay an extra $8.50 per month over the next 10 years.
Ms Dalziel said people already face many costs associated with the quakes, and the Government should help pay for network repairs.
Orion, like other power companies, can't insure its assets.
