No extension for red zone home owners

Updated at 10:48 pm on 7 December 2012

People living in Christchurch's residential red zone, whose zoning changed from green to red, will not get an extension to settle the sale of their property to the Government.

Residents of 7860 red-zoned properties have to be out of their homes by Arpil 2013 after completing the sale and purchase agreements.

Some, who were originally zoned green, appealed against the zoning and have since been designated red.

But Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee says they still have to be out by April.

Mr Brownlee says the Government will be prepared to remind insurance companies of the timeframes they need to work to.
