Quake survey

Several hundred people in Cantabury are to be surveyed during the next two weeks as scientists ask residents about their experiences in the February 2011 earthquake.

Six scientists from GNS are to visit about 300 houses asking people about their quake experiences.

GNS said the survey will involve questions and a visual assessment of properties, to get an understanding of the intensity of shaking felt by people across Christchurch.

Seismic hazards scientist Mark Stirling said the responses will help the agency develop a risk assessment map, that will provide engineers with valuable information for the rebuild.

He said the survey will be the largest of its kind in New Zealand.
