Census deliveries helped by community groups

A Census manager says staff in Christchurch were helped by community groups to find people displaced by the earthquakes and deliver Census forms to them.

Statistics New Zealand has created extra collection areas in the red and white zones to ensure people without a fixed address can take part in today's census.

A leaflet is also being delivered with Census forms there with advice on completing residential information.

Community engagement manager Nikki Hawkey said all levels of the community, including schools, community boards and the city mission have helped.

Mrs Hawkey said Census staff have visited every accessible dwelling in Christchurch to deliver forms.
