Meetings begin to help quake-affected elderly

The first of several meetings to help elderly people work through their earthquake insurance claims has taken place in the east of Christchurch.

Christchurch City councillor Glenn Livingstone says he organised the meeting in Wainoni because some people are confused about their claims and may not be getting the best deal from their insurers.

Insurance Watch chair David Stringer led the question and answer session for about 30 people.

Mr Stringer says such meetings are crucial for helping the elderly, who are generally very trusting of their insurers, get the best payout they can.
