EQC payment wait lamented as unfair

A homeowner in Christchurch, whose property is on damaged land, says it's unfair some will have to wait as long as 19 months for a payment from the Earthquake Commission.

The commission has now completed ground tests in Canterbury to establish the extent of earthquake damage to residential land.

But while payments are already being made to those with minimal damage, about 8000 owners with some of the worst affected land will have to wait longer.

Adrienne Lingard's house is on land prone to liquefaction and she has already been waiting more than two years to find out if she's a rebuild or a repair.

She says not having an answer about her property means her life has been placed on hold.
