A temporary accommodation village has opened in Christchurch for construction workers and people displaced by the earthquakes.

The Workotel village in Riccarton will house some of the thousands of building workers expected to flood into the city over the next 10 years.

Owner Jason Whitelaw says there's space at the former campground for 200 workers and another 100 people seeking somewhere to stay while their homes are repaired.

He says the village is already fully booked and a first group of workers from the Philippines is expected shortly.

Mr Whitelaw says the venture is 75% owned by Singaporean company Tee International.
