The safety charter was revealed by the ministers for Labour, ACC and the Earthquake Recovery in Christchurch on Thursday morning.

The charter has been signed and endorsed by 50 construction, insurance, and central and local government leaders. They have agreed to create a consistent and collective approach to health and safety on all rebuild worksites.

ACC Minister Judith Collins hopes the charter will be an enduring legacy not only for Canterbury. but throughout New Zealand.

Last year ACC paid $79 million in construction-related claims.
