Carlton Hotel open again

5:00 pm on 21 September 2013

The Carlton Hotel in Christchurch is open again to the public with an entirely new look.

The building had to be demolished after the February 2011 earthquake and a modern interpretation of the pub has been built on the site.

It's the second time in its history the Carlton has been rebuilt.

General manager Steve Holmes said the Carlton has been built to 130% of the strength requirements of the new code.

He said regular patrons are glad to be back and some debate has occurred about the modern design but most people are impressed.
