Minor damage to cathedrals

Christchurch's two historic cathedrals appear to have suffered only minor damage as a result of Saturday's earthquake.

The Very Reverend Peter Beck says the Anglican cathedral of ChristChurch in the central city has slight damage to ornamental plaster.

He says structural engineers will be checking the 140-year-old building in Cathedral Square, but the exterior appears to be unscathed.

Reverend Beck says the Catholic Cathedral in Barbadoes Street has only minor damage to plaster.
