Housing help needed - Civil Defence

Civil Defence hopes the Government will help provide housing for Canterbury people who cannot return home because of the earthquake.

It says planning has begun to ensure accomodation is available for the hundreds of people in welfare centres and the estimated thousands staying with friends and family.

Canterbury Emergency Management controller Jon Mitchell says some may need to stay in motels.
