Some banks are offering holidays on home loan repayments to help customers whose homes were damaged in the Canterbury earthquake.
As well as donations to relief funds, banks say they are exercising flexibility to help customers.
The Bank of New Zealand says the bank has a range of initiatives to help customers.
Chief executive Andrew Thorburn that includes waiving penalty interest fees for late credit card payments and suspending home loan repayments for up to 90 days.
He says the Bank of New Zealand is committed to helping its customers get back on their feet.
ASB, ANZ Bank and Westpac are also offering flexibility to customers in dealing with loan repayments.
