Social networking sites used to re-attract custom

Some businesses in earthquake-damaged Christchurch are using social networking online sites to lure customers back.

Many retailers, eateries and bars were closed for much of last week because of the 7.1 quake on 4 September.

Since businesses reopened their doors, foot traffic and overall trade has been much lighter than normal.

Bars in particular have been turning to social networking sites such as Facebook to attract people into the central city.

The duty manager of the Cartel bar, Charles Gillet, says it has been a good way to communicate to the public that they are open and it seems to be working.
