The Government is working on speeding up settlement processes for owners of homes hit by Canterbury's earthquake.

Tens of thousands of claims have been filed since the disaster.

Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee says he has been holding talks with the Earthquake Commission, insurance companies, mortgage lenders and the building and construction sector.

He says he hopes to make further announcements by the middle of next week.
