A piece of rugby history is to be auctioned off to raise money for the Canterbury earthquake relief fund.
The goalposts at Auckland's Eden Park will be auctioned on the online site Trade Me from Wednesday.
The posts are 18 metres tall and 700kg each and have been used in many famous games, including the 1981 Springbok flour bomb test and the All Blacks' 1987 World Cup victory.
Former All Black and Auckland first five-eighth Grant Fox says he spent many, many hours during games and practice eyeing the posts and trying to kick the ball between them.
"They mean a lot to me in terms of Eden Park - my rugby home, if you like. I've got a lot of fond memories of the park. The goalposts are probably the thing that I spent the most time looking at, probably more than the players I played with."
The goal-kicking great says he grew up using a makeshift pair of goalposts on his family's farm and would love for the Eden Park posts to wind up somewhere similar.
However, he says he won't be placing a bid for them.
