800+ aftershocks to date

6:11 am on 21 September 2010

More than 800 aftershocks have now occurred in Canterbury since the magnitude 7.1 earthquake on 4 September, but there is differing information on earthquake websites.

Official information is recorded by GNS Science, which publishes the information on its own website.

Two new sites are now using raw GNS data, but each shows a different number of total aftershocks, and records quakes the GNS site does not.

GNS says there are now simply too many shocks to report on its site and it will show only the most intense, or the aftershocks that many people report feeling.
