More recovery assistance centres open

Five new earthquake recovery assistance centres are opening in Canterbury.

The satellite centres are additional to four that opened in Christchurch last week, all acting as a one-stop shop for social services.

The new centres, four in the Selwyn district and one in Kaiapoi, are intended to make it easier for people to get help with things like accommodation, finances and general wellbeing.

They are based in libraries in Rolleston, Darfield, Lincoln and Leeston, and in the Kaiapoi community centre.

Selwyn District Council says many people are now facing the hard realities of recovery.
