Funding available for community group relocation

Community organisations in Canterbury forced to relocate because of the earthquake will be able to access government funding.

The Government initiated a special $7.5 million round of the Community Response Fund last month to meet the greater demand for community services.

Acting Social Development Minister Judith Collins says the fund is being broadened to help community groups relocate.

She says 15% of the organisations are in badly damaged buildings and they need to move.

Ms Collins says that nearly 60 organisations have applied for assistance under the fund, which has disbursed more than $500,000 so far.
