Funding for post-quake business training

Economic Development Minister Gerry Brownlee is putting $100,000 into training for Canterbury business owners and managers to help them recover from the effects of the earthquake on 4 September.

Mr Brownlee says feedback shows that business people are seeking advice on how to re-build their companies after the quake.

He says the money will pay for workshops for businesses in Christchurch city, Selwyn District and North Canterbury during the next six months.

The workshops will focus on matters like managing cash flow, debt recovery and retaining customers, so businesses can get back to normal trading sooner.

Canterbury Chamber of Commerce chief executive Peter Townsend, says that while more than 90% of businesses are open, they still desperately need a helping hand.
