Two district health boards provided half of the 52 health personnel who went to help in Canterbury after the earthquake.
Between them, Capital and Coast DHB and Nelson-Marlborough DHB sent 27 nurses and others.
Capital and Coast DHB sent 11 nurses and three or four neo-natal intensive care staff shortly after the quake on 4 September.
The DHB says it has always had a very strong tradition of helping other areas.
