Jobs listed on Trade Me show that opportunities for work are up by 9% in Christchurch, despite the earthquake there.

Trade Me says an analysis of 32,000 jobs listed on the site, in the three months from July - September, shows the number advertised in Christchurch is up 9% on the previous quarter.

That is in contrast to an average nationwide growth of 4% over the same period.

Trade Me says Christchurch was one of the top regions for growth in the quarter, behind only South Auckland and Southland, where job listings went up 18%.

Mr Ashby says there was an initial sharp drop in Christchurch listings the week after the earthquake on 4 September.

But since that, the job market has recovered well.

Mr Ashby says that overall, nationwide, the number of jobs listed is up 34% on the same time last year, showing the employment market is slowly but steadily improving.
