A shallow, magnitude 4.1 earthquake was felt in Christchurch on Thursday morning, at a depth of just one kilometre.
The tremor at 6.49am was centred 10 kilometres south-west of the city, and was described by police as a short, sharp shock.
There was another earthquake just after midnight measuring 4.2 , at a depth of three kilometres.
