Old buildings showing the effects - heritage trust

The Christchurch Heritage Trust says many old inner-city buildings are showing the effects of months of aftershocks.

So far, 115 buildings have been confirmed as damaged in the latest series of aftershocks since Sunday.

Areas of the city are cordoned-off, including Poplar Lane in the Lanes area.

Trust chairman Derek Anderson says the High Para apartment block has suffered damage in the latest quakes, as have many other city buildings.

He says the damage suggests that strengthening parapets may be a better idea than strengthening whole buildings.
