Cashel Mall in Christchurch is open to pedestrians again, after being closed on Boxing Day because of earthquake aftershocks.
The mall was closed between Oxford Terrace and Colombo Street.
A Radio New Zealand reporter says shoppers are already there, making up for lost time at the sales.
Parts of Gloucester and Manchester Streets, and Poplar and Ash lanes in the Lanes precinct were also closed on Sunday.
The strongest tremor, at 10.30am on Sunday, had a magnitude of 4.9 and was 12km deep.
The cordon in Cashel Mall was lifted at 6am on Wednesday.
However, unsafe individual buildings will remain cordoned off.
Not all premises were able to open on Wednesday. Sandra O'Connor at Cue, a women's clothing store, came in hoping to open, but was told the shop is still unsafe and she needed to move the stock.
Christchurch City council says 115 of 5000 buildings inspected, are still unsafe after the shakes.
