Christchurch Airport says a significant number of people are still turning up looking to get on the next plane they can.
Chief executive Jim Boult says the airport is hectic, but well-ordered.
About 200 people slept in the terminal overnight on Saturday.
Mr Boult says there are still extra domestic flights, but international routes have returned to normal.
He says a lot of Christchurch people are just deciding they want to leave town for a while, but if possible they should book before going to the airport.
On Friday, about double the normal number of people went through the airport, but that has fallen off slightly.
