Firefighters share rescue stories

Some of the Christchurch firefighters who helped rescue people from the Pyne Gould and CTV buildings after the quake have shared their remarkable stories.

Station officer Paul Rodwell has described wriggling into the ruins of the collapsed CTV building to try to reach those trapped inside.

He says it was a euphoric feeling to get people out alive - including a Japanese student who was trapped for nine hours.

The student had to have his leg amputated in order to be freed.
