The navy ship Canterbury is docking at Lyttelton Harbour with its cargo of relief supplies.

Crew spent Sunday night loading the ship in Wellington with army and civilian vehicles needed for the rebuilding effort as well as food, water and medical supplies.

In the early hours of Tuesday the crew will begin unloading, when tides allow only a two-hour window.
