Cordon frustrates some businesses

Some Christchurch businesses say they are feeling frustrated at not being able to get into buildings inside the CBD cordon to retrieve the basic material they need to keep operating.

The chief executive of the Manufacturers and Exporters Association, John Walley, says he has been trying to get a response from authorities about when and how a system will be set up.

He says some companies that are not necessarily in the most sensitive areas of the cordon want to be able to remove payroll information so they can pay staff.

Mr Walley says that if they don't get businesses up and running, measures such as the Government's support package will be a bridge to nowhere.
