Christchurch disabled 'struggling to cope'

Updated at 9:45 am on 5 March 2011

An organisation which looks after the disabled says many of its members are struggling to cope after the Christchurch earthquake.

The regional manager for CCS Disability Action says many of the 600 clients based in the city are encountering extra challenges since the quake on 22 February.

David Matthews many have been isolated for long periods of time because they live in the hard-hit eastern suburbs, cannot recharge their electric wheelchairs and are on limited incomes.

Mr Matthews says CCS staff are organising a trailer and generators so they can make home visits to charge the wheelchairs.
