Christchurch residents who do not have running water will be able to have free, hot showers on Monday, as the country's largest mobile shower unit turns on its taps.

The shower truck will be located at the corner of Cresswell Avenue and New Brighton Road, near Burwood Park, from 8am.

Kohler's national sales manager, Neil Cumming, says donated supplies of shampoo and other showering products will be available, however, residents are being asked to bring their own towels.

Mr Cumming says the unit, which has been transported from Auckland, will be moved to a different location each day to maximise coverage.
