The Government has extended the state of national emergency for a further seven days.
Civil Defence Minister John Carter says the continuing impact of February's Christchurch earthquake and its aftershocks means the state of national emergency may extend for several more weeks.
Mr Carter says the declaration will help maximise the co-ordination and co-operation of central and local resources and international assistance.
