More than 70,000 buildings have been assessed in the wake of last month's earthquake in Christchurch.

Of the commercial buildings inspected to date, 1487 have been red-stickered, meaning they are unsafe to enter because of damage or threats from neighbouring constructions or landslips.

Civil Defence says 3629 commercial buildings have received green stickers, which means they're safe to enter but may still need repair.

Residential buildings have received 1510 red stickers.

Of the 1666 heritage buildings inspected, 844 have been red-stickered.

The total number of buildings assessed so far is 70,520, Civil Defence says.
