More of inner-Christchurch reopens

8:57 pm on 17 March 2011

Another section of Christchurch's inner-city cordon will be lifted on Thursday, with the reopening of streets to the north-west of the city's square mile.

Zone four, which is bordered by Bealey Avenue, Park Terrace, Armagh Street, Montreal Street and Salisbury Street, opened from 8am for residents and businesses so they could secure their properties.

The public will be allowed in on Friday morning.

People are being urged to go first to the Information Centre in Cranmer Square for information about essential services, welfare and structural building questions.

Civil Defence says some streets will remain closed because of damage to roads and buildings.
