Leaks in Christchurch's water pipes are affecting the city's water supplies.
Civil Defence national controller John Hamilton says restrictions put in place after last month's earthquake remain in force.
Mr Hamilton says people should not water their gardens or wash their cars with running water.
He says showers should be quick, and toilet flushing minimised.
