Those killed in the Christchurch earthquake have been remembered at a concert in New York that was both a tribute and a frundraiser.

Expat soprano Marie Te Hapuku, the woman behind Friday's event, says the concert involved opera singers from New Zealand and Australia, as well as New York.

Ms Te Hapuku says the concert drew a crowd of more than 150 people and raised about $13,000 for the Salvation Army Canterbury appeal and the Christchurch Arts Centre.

She says some people were moved to tears by the performance.
