Heaters on order ahead of winter

The Earthquake Commission is ordering about 1000 heaters per week in a drive to ensure damaged homes in Christchurch are warm for winter.

Fletcher Construction is managing a fast-track heating project, which was set up as a joint venture with the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority after the September earthquake.

The commission says the heaters could be heat pumps, pellet burners or other devices that work well in the homes involved.

EQC chief executive Ian Simpson says 4000 have already been ordered, installed or repaired.
