The American Samoa Red Cross has raised $US25,000 for victims of the Christchurch and Japan earthquakes.

Christchurch will receive 30% of the money following the 22 February earthquake. The death toll stands at 172.

The rest of the money will go to Japan still reeling from the 9.0-magnitude quake that triggered a tsunami that devastated much of northeast Japan on 11 March.

The directors say the organisation should do its part, irrespective of size, to demonstrate appreciation for the help given after the tsunami that hit American Samoa in 2009.
