Govt help to pay winter power bills urged

The Government has been asked to put together a support package to help low to middle income earners in Christchurch pay their winter power bills.

Labour MP Brendan Burns says many residents are living in damaged, draughty homes with no heating.

He says that while Fletchers has undertaken a heating repair and install programme, he's concerned that it may not be completed in time for winter and in any case people may not be able to cope with power bills.

Mr Burns also wants the Ministry of Health to provide free flu vaccinations for all Christchurch residents.
